EvilQuest Gets the Greenlight, Coming to Steam on February 20, 2014

We are pleased to announce EvilQuest has been greenlit for release on Steam. For the members of the team at Chaosoft Games, this is amazing news as we will be able to bring EvilQuest to an entirely new audience. One that we believe will be much larger than any previous audience that the game has enjoyed.

In preparation for the Steam release of the game, we are adding several new features to the game as well as fixing a couple of lingering issues with prior versions of the game.

First, and most importantly, we are adding achievements to the game. Expect to be rewarded for unlocking key story elements, discovering hidden items, and killing hordes of monsters and innocent townsfolk.

Second, one of the most requested features that critics and fans have asked for is an autosave option. This is something that we’ve struggled with because we feel that it goes against the retro spirit of the game. However, we are not deaf to the cries of the masses and have gone ahead and implemented autosave in EvilQuest. We hope that this will cut down on some people’s frustration when playing the game. It can of course be disabled in the game’s option menu for hardcore players.

Third, We will be making a minor tweak to the stat assignment system. In the past it was possible to pump all stat bonuses in the game into one stat (Strength, Toughness, Intelligence, Vitality) and this allowed for some extremely powerful and unbalanced builds. In the next version of the game, players will be restricted to adding only 2 points to a given stat on level up. This will remove the temptation that some have had to overload the Strength stat and make the game too easy for themselves (there’s an “Easy” difficulty setting if players find the game to be too challenging).

Fourth, and this is pretty minor, but we have added exit points to certain dungeons. These exit points will allow a player to instantly return to the world area that contains that dungeon once it has been cleared.

We hope that these new features will make the game more enjoyable and accessible to new players and EvilQuest veterans alike. EvilQuest will be released on Steam on Thursday, February 20th, 2014 and will continue to be offered for $1.99 US, the same price as on all other PC digital distribution services.

EvilQuest approved for Steam release

EvilQuest 2 Update

To celebrate the 1-year anniversary of the release of EvilQuest, we’re giving fans a look at some never-before-seen screenshots from EvilQuest 2.

Chaosoft Games would like to assure fans that we are working hard on bringing you a sequel that surpasses the first game in every possible way. It’s been a crazy year for us between release of EvilQuest on Xbox and PC, update patches, interviews, media relations, entering Dream-Build-Play, being in the Indie Royale bundle, trying to get on Steam, and interacting with fans – not to mention our day-to-day lives. But we’re thrilled with the fan reaction and success of EvilQuest and we wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Through it all we’ve been plugging away at EvilQuest 2, and while production is taking longer than the first game, the quality of everything about EvilQuest 2 is significantly higher. We still can’t confirm anything about a release date other than “2013,” but we are redoubling our efforts to deliver a follow-up to EvilQuest that we hope will shatter all expectations.

Thanks to everyone who helped make the first year of EvilQuest a success!

EvilQuest 2 Currently in Development

It’s official: Chaosoft Games has entered an early build of our upcoming Action/RPG EvilQuest 2 into Microsoft’s Dream.Build.Play 2012 competition. We are very happy to announce to all our fans that we are working on this title and thank you for your continued support.

Following on the heels of the successful release of EvilQuest earlier this year, EvilQuest 2 is currently in the early phases of production. The entry into Dream.Build.Play consists of a demo version showing off a host of new and improved features and hints briefly at the early stages of the game’s story. After listening to both fans and critics of the first game, Chaosoft Games is heavily focused on adding more of the elements that made the first game a success, while making large strides in the areas of music, art, dialogue and gameplay. While waiting for the game to be released, gamers can divert their interest in other exciting options like bonk io.

Notable new features seen in the demo include new special attacks, new types of weapons, a grappling hook item, and an in-depth weapon crafting system. Much about the game’s story has not yet been revealed, but here is what can be deduced from the demo and trailer:
In a world on the brink of annihilation, a mighty warlord has appeared and seems hell-bent on delivering the planet a final crushing blow. But, in the small village of Aurora, a glimmer of hope appears in the night sky. A mysterious stranger has fallen from the heavens, fulfilling one of the planet’s most ancient legends. Is this man the people’s savior, as the legend claims, or something else entirely? In EvilQuest 2, play as a mysterious hero on a quest to discover the truth about both himself and the world that he has been thrust into.
Features: – Fast-paced Action/RPG combat. – Unique, genre-defying story. – Perform multi-kill combos to boost your abilities in battle. – Unlock the power of The Chaos Shards and craft powerful weapons. – Unleash powerful special attacks to smash your foes. – Dozens of unique spells. – Intense and challenging boss battles.

The game will initially be distributed through Desura, one of the world’s leading distributors of digitally downloadable games, and priced at $1.99 USD. EvilQuest is available for digital download as of February 29th 2012, and a free-to-try demo version is also available.

EvilQuest was released on January 4th 2012 for the Xbox Live Indie Games service and has recieved a high degree of critical and commercial success. Most recently, the game was featured on the Joystiq Indie Pitch and was recommended as one of Kotaku’s Favorites on the Xbox Dashboard. We hope to continue this trend on the Windows platform and want to thank everyone that has purchased the game thus far.

EvilQuest turns the Action-RPG genre on its head by putting the player in the role of a villain bent on world domination, rather than the traditional role of a hero trying to save the world.

As the dark knight Galvis, the player begins the story by staging a daring escape from an imperial prison and unleashes his lust for vengeance and power on a world that is ripe for the taking. As the story progresses, Galvis will gain untold power, ultimately leading to a confrontation with the gods themselves. The outcome will determine the fate of the world and decide who is worthy to wield ultimate power.

EvilQuest features a wide variety of environments, enemies, and boss creatures – all created in retro style with 100% original artwork, animation, and music. In addition to fighting monsters, Galvis will also terrorize the residents of several towns and must avoid imperial agents seeking to re-capture him.

The goal of the game is for Galvis to take revenge on his captors as well as unlock the secret power of four legendary seals. Players will find a variety of weapons, items, and magic spells to increase their power as they play through the quest. The game also allows the player to customize areas of proficiency during level-ups by assigning points to particular attributes.
