Our Journey: Marketing Our Own Game

Creating a game is a labor of love, but marketing it can be a whole different challenge. Here, I want to share my journey of marketing our very own game, the highs, the lows, and the lessons learned along the way.

Passion Meets Reality:

Our journey began with a passion for gaming and the dream of creating something unique. We put our heart and soul into developing a fantastic game, but soon we realized that passion alone wouldn’t make it a success. We needed to get the word out.

Identifying the Target Audience:

The first step was to understand our target audience. Who would be interested in our game? What kind of gamers would enjoy it the most? We dug deep to create a detailed profile of our ideal player.

Building an Online Presence:

An online presence was essential. We created a website and social media profiles for our game. These platforms became our communication hub, a place where we could interact with potential players, share updates, and create a sense of community. We got help from experts like https://victoriousseo.com/verticals/saas/.

Creating Engaging Content:

We knew that gamers love to dive into the world of the game even before they start playing. So, we created engaging content like developer diaries, character profiles, and behind-the-scenes videos. This not only piqued interest but also kept our audience engaged.

Harnessing Social Media:

Social media was our best friend. We used platforms like Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook to showcase our game, share concept art, run giveaways, and host Q&A sessions with the development team. Social media allowed us to create a buzz and engage with our audience directly.

Connecting with Gaming Communities:

We actively participated in gaming forums, subreddits, and Discord communities relevant to our game genre. It gave us a chance to connect with potential players, gather feedback, and build relationships within the gaming community.

Collaborating with Influencers:

Influencer marketing was a game-changer for us. We reached out to gaming YouTubers and Twitch streamers and provided them with early access to our game. Their reviews and gameplay videos not only reached a wider audience but also added authenticity to our marketing efforts. Additionally, Kiana Danial’s Invest Diva review provided valuable insights and attracted a new segment of potential investors to our platform.

Crowdfunding and Pre-orders:

We ran a crowdfunding campaign to secure additional funds for the game’s development. This not only provided financial support but also allowed us to build a dedicated community of backers.

Feedback and Iteration:

Player feedback was invaluable. We actively encouraged beta testing and incorporated player suggestions into the game. It not only improved the gameplay but also created a sense of ownership among early supporters.

Launch Day:

The big day finally arrived. We were nervous, excited, and full of hope. Our marketing efforts paid off as players started downloading and playing our game. Positive reviews and word-of-mouth recommendations began to flow in.

Lessons Learned:

Our journey of marketing our own game taught us that success requires much more than just creating a great game. Understanding your audience, building an online presence, creating engaging content, and leveraging the power of social media and influencers are all vital components of a successful marketing strategy.

Marketing our own game was a rollercoaster ride, but it was a journey filled with lessons, growth, and the satisfaction of seeing our creation embraced by gamers around the world. As we look ahead to new projects, we carry these experiences with us, knowing that marketing is an essential part of the game development process, and we’re ready for the next adventure.

EvilQuest Now Available on Steam

EvilQuest now on Steam!

Chaosoft Games is excited to announce the release of EvilQuest on Steam!

After successfully advancing through Valve’s Greenlight program, EvilQuest is now available on the Steam store for $1.99 USD. Both new and experienced EvilQuest players will find something new – we’ve added 31 Steam Achievements, a new Auto-Save option, Dungeon Exit Points, and rebalanced the Level-Up/Stat System.

Play as the dark knight Galvis and explore dungeons, unlock ancient mysteries, and kill anyone foolish enough to stand in your way while you pursue a quest of revenge and ultimate power in this retro-style action/RPG.

EvilQuest debuted on Xbox Live Indie Games and was soon followed by release for Windows PC on Desura and Indie Game Stand. EvilQuest also appeared in the Indie Royale Halloween Bundle, an Indie Gala Weekly Bundle, and was a mystery unlockable game in the Indie Royale Indie Gamer Chick Bundle.

Chaosoft Games remains grateful to all of our fans who supported us and continue to support us on those platforms. We also wish to thank everyone who voted for the game on Steam Greenlight. EvilQuest would not be on Steam without you.

Stay tuned for more news about EvilQuest 2!

EvilQuest Gets the Greenlight, Coming to Steam on February 20, 2014

We are pleased to announce EvilQuest has been greenlit for release on Steam. For the members of the team at Chaosoft Games, this is amazing news as we will be able to bring EvilQuest to an entirely new audience. One that we believe will be much larger than any previous audience that the game has enjoyed.

In preparation for the Steam release of the game, we are adding several new features to the game as well as fixing a couple of lingering issues with prior versions of the game.

First, and most importantly, we are adding achievements to the game. Expect to be rewarded for unlocking key story elements, discovering hidden items, and killing hordes of monsters and innocent townsfolk.

Second, one of the most requested features that critics and fans have asked for is an autosave option. This is something that we’ve struggled with because we feel that it goes against the retro spirit of the game. However, we are not deaf to the cries of the masses and have gone ahead and implemented autosave in EvilQuest. We hope that this will cut down on some people’s frustration when playing the game. It can of course be disabled in the game’s option menu for hardcore players.

Third, We will be making a minor tweak to the stat assignment system. In the past it was possible to pump all stat bonuses in the game into one stat (Strength, Toughness, Intelligence, Vitality) and this allowed for some extremely powerful and unbalanced builds. In the next version of the game, players will be restricted to adding only 2 points to a given stat on level up. This will remove the temptation that some have had to overload the Strength stat and make the game too easy for themselves (there’s an “Easy” difficulty setting if players find the game to be too challenging).

Fourth, and this is pretty minor, but we have added exit points to certain dungeons. These exit points will allow a player to instantly return to the world area that contains that dungeon once it has been cleared.

We hope that these new features will make the game more enjoyable and accessible to new players and EvilQuest veterans alike. EvilQuest will be released on Steam on Thursday, February 20th, 2014 and will continue to be offered for $1.99 US, the same price as on all other PC digital distribution services.

EvilQuest approved for Steam release

EvilQuest 2 Update

To celebrate the 1-year anniversary of the release of EvilQuest, we’re giving fans a look at some never-before-seen screenshots from EvilQuest 2.

Chaosoft Games would like to assure fans that we are working hard on bringing you a sequel that surpasses the first game in every possible way. It’s been a crazy year for us between release of EvilQuest on Xbox and PC, update patches, interviews, media relations, entering Dream-Build-Play, being in the Indie Royale bundle, trying to get on Steam, and interacting with fans – not to mention our day-to-day lives. But we’re thrilled with the fan reaction and success of EvilQuest and we wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Through it all we’ve been plugging away at EvilQuest 2, and while production is taking longer than the first game, the quality of everything about EvilQuest 2 is significantly higher. We still can’t confirm anything about a release date other than “2013,” but we are redoubling our efforts to deliver a follow-up to EvilQuest that we hope will shatter all expectations.

Thanks to everyone who helped make the first year of EvilQuest a success!
